Man found fatally shot, boy injured on east side Monday night, police say

A man is dead and a boy is wounded after a shooting on the east side of Indianapolis Monday night, police said.

Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to reports of shots fired in the 2100 block of North Spencer Avenue — near East 21st Street and Emerson Avenue — shortly before 9 p.m.

Arriving officers found a 56-year-old man deceased on a porch outside a house on the block, according to IMPD Captain Rebecca Lake. A 14-year-old boy was also wounded in the incident and taken to an area hospital.

IMPD initially reported that a second person had been shot, but Lake told IndyStar the boy had a scuff-like wound on his forehead, and it was not clear whether it was a graze wound from a bullet or another injury.

Police on Monday night had “a handful of people we are talking to” to get more information about the incident, Lake said. No suspects are in custody.
