Victim identified in Saturday far east-side homicide


A man who police found dead in a far east-side apartment building Saturday night has been identified as 27-year-old DaQuan Smith.
Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police found Smith dead in the 200 block of North Shortridge Rd. at approximately 8:25 p.m. Saturday night, according to a report. Police initially reported the victim had been shot but later said the man suffered “undisclosed trauma.”

Homicide detectives responded to the scene Saturday night to begin their investigation, and the Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency responded to help identify potential forensic evidence.
Police have listed the man’s death as a homicide.
